Silent Spring*; a series of disassembly spiral-binding
좋아은경, 2012-
달력 해체 과정에서 용수철 철사를 구부려 새를 만들어 올렸다.
그린캔버스달력을 작업하며 용수철 제본의 대안을 고민하다 아이디어를 얻었으며 현재 그린캔버스 달력은 제본 없이 제작해 클립을 끼워 배포하고 있다.
달력의 용수철을 재료로 한 연작을 통해 재료와 공정의 최소화, 조립과 해체, 폐기의 문제를 이야기하고자 한다.
*1962년 출판된 <침묵의 봄(Silent Spring)>은 20세기에 가장 큰 영향력을 미친 환경 고전으로 DDT 등 유독성화학물질의 무분별한 사용에 의한 지구생태계 파괴를 경고하는 내용이 담겨있다. 저자 레이첼 카슨(Rachel Carson, 1907-1964)은 미국의 해양생물학자 및 작가로 시적인 산문과 과학적 지식이 결합된 글쓰기로 여러 베스트 셀러를 남겼다.
I visualized the round portion of spiral-binding as the leg of a bird that grasped branch, sitting. I immediately started to disassemble the calendar but left the last portion this time, straight rest of winding wire, made a bird shape that's sitting on a branch. I made several more, titled them 'Silent Spring'.
* 'Silent Spring' is an environmental science book written by Rachel Carson and published in 1962. The book warned about the indiscriminate use of pesticides, toxic chemicals destroy the delicate balance of nature.
